NOW is the time to register to attend the 2010 Boy Scouts of America National Jamboree - celebrating BSA's 100th Anniversary - Last Adult selection interviews on April 7 and 9
Western Los Angeles County Council will be limited to sending 4 Contingent Troops made up from Scouts in our Council. The experience will include attendance at our National Jamboree from July 26 - August 4, 2010 at Ft. A.P. Hill, Virginia (just outside Washington DC) and a yet-to-be-decided traveling tour preceding the Jamboree (may be different for each of the 4 contingent troops)
What is Jamboree? This is a get-together of more than 30,000 scouts for amazing and fun activities, getting to meet and know other scouts from all over the USA and even other countries, participate in dynamite arena shows (maybe even the President will visit), having fun while experiencing the true brotherhood spirit of scouting. National Jamborees occur once every 4 years -- this one has been delayed by a year to 2010 so it coincides with BSA's 100th anniversary.
Who can go? Scouts who are at least 12 but not older than 18 and at least First Class rank at the time of Jamboree who are registered and active in their troops, have been interviewed and selected to represent our council, participated in the pre-jamboree meetings, paid their own way and agreed to the Code of Conduct. Since we are limited to sending around 160 scouts from our council, signing up now is important! Complete the form, and get it into our council office with your $200 (refundable) deposit to be included in the early interview and selection process. Scouts from many troops in our council are assigned to one of the 4 contingent troops, formed just for the purpose of going to Jamboree. Each contingent troop elects its Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol leaders and other leaders.
Cost is yet to be determined, and will be a function of the jamboree fees, and travel dates and arrangements. Cost for the last Jamboree in 2005 ranged from $2300 - $4600. Since jamboree fees and travel costs have gone up since then, we are estimating the cost to be between $2500 and $5000, depending on the length and location of the pre-jamboree tours.
IMPORTANT - ADULT CONTINGENT LEADERSHIP SELECTION IS NOW! Last interviews are April 7 & 9!
Each troop will be led by a Scoutmaster, 1st Assistant Scoutmaster, 2nd Assistant Scoutmaster, and 3rd Assistant Scoutmaster.
