2024 AV Palmdale and Littlerock Christmas Parades
Palmdale Parade
December is approaching, and that means that it will soon be time for the AV Chambers of Commerce Christmas Parade! We will be having an AV District Scout Float, and we’d love to have participants from all of our units!
This year, the parade will be held on Saturday, December 14th in Palmdale, between 20th Street East and Sierra Highway. The parade officially begins at 10 a.m. but participants will need to be there a bit earlier.
We will be in spot: #21 on Palmdale Blvd, east of 20th Street East. This spot is toward the beginning. You will need to park and walk to the site.
We need to meet by the float: between 8:30 – 8:45 a.m. Judging will be at 9 a.m.
Susie White and family are willing to lend their trailer again to be used as our float. We will need a vehicle and driver to tow the float. If you (or someone from your unit) is willing to do this, please contact me (see contact info. below).
The theme this year is “Planes, Trains, and Reindeers”
Breana LePage has been instrumental in coming up with a creative way to showcase the theme and allow our Scouts and families to have fun. The float will look like a train (cardboard “train” will be attached to the float trailer on each side. Our youngest Cubs (Lions, Tigers, etc.) will ride in the float, and will appear to be riding in train cars! Older Cubs will get the opportunity to make/decorate “box planes” to wear if they’d like (see link with DIY instructions, ideas, and examples – but families are encouraged to look at other examples and/or be creative). They will be “flying” around out to either side of the float. Older Cubs may also choose to walk along with the float, or (if needed) ride on the float. Troop Scouts will be carrying a Scout banner and waving/walking along with the float. ALL the participants will receive a headband with reindeer antlers to wear. I currently have 48 headbands, so we will see how many Cubs and Scouts we have participating.
Link to see examples and information on “box plane” DIY construction ideas at https://bit.ly/AV-Plane-costumes
We definitely would love any box or cardboard donations to be used for the train portion. Families would work individually on creating their planes, unless a pack wants to do this together.
Adults (leaders and parents) are welcome to walk along with the float during the parade. Leaders, please wear your uniform if you are able to do so. Adults can wear Santa hats or reindeer antlers (Scouts have first priority with the antlers I have purchased).
We have requested one of the beginning parade slots so that we can be one of the earlier floats finishing.
We have the opportunity to ALSO participate in the Littlerock Christmas Parade in the afternoon on the same day. For those participating, we are looking at having some sort of a snack/picnic in between the two parades.
Littlerock Parade
Theme: A Cowboy Christmas
Actual Parade begins at: 3 p.m.
We need to meet by the float: between 2 – 2:30 p.m. (we are not going to worry about judging)
We will be in spot: TBD on East Ave. T-8 by 82nd St. East. Parking on East Ave. T-8 (west of 82nd East) and also East Ave. U (both sides) , but you may also park in downtown Littlerock in designated areas. You will need to park and walk to start. (82nd St. East will be closed at 1 p.m. so you will need to come from a different direction after that – probably easiest to come North from Hwy 138 on 75th or 80th St. East.)
Parade route: Begins at East Ave. T-8, travels down 82nd St. East., and ends at Hwy 138.
We hope that you and your unit will join us – either in one parade or both! You are NOT REQUIRED to be at both parades, but we would love to have as many as possible join us! This is an opportunity for excellent Scouting visibility!
Please reach out to me if you have any questions or need additional information that I didn’t cover! There will be additional information coming out in December with more specifics about times, etc. By that time, we should know our entry position and we can share any final float decorating information, as well.
Sincerely,
Carol Pedersen
